Square Online Pricing 2026: Store Plans From $0 to $149 a Month

Square Online is $0, $49 and $149 a month per location, and the monthly fee is only half the bill. Every rate on the plan page, the $12,250 a month break-even that decides whether Plus pays for itself, why Premium never wins on online sales, and the $588 a year it costs to put a Square site on your own domain.

Square Online pricing in 2026 comes in three self-serve tiers: Square Free at $0 a month, Square Plus at $49 a month and Square Premium at $149 a month, each charged per location. A fourth tier, Square Pro, is custom-priced for sellers processing more than $250,000 a year. Online card payments cost 3.3% + 30¢ on Free and 2.9% + 30¢ on Plus and Premium. Every figure here comes from Square's own US plans page.

The monthly fee is only half the bill. On Square the other half is processing, and the two trade against each other, so the cheapest plan depends on how much you sell. If you mostly need a website rather than a store, the fee that matters is the $49 a month it takes to put the site on your own domain. For a service business, compare that with AgentSite's plans: $180 a year for a complete multi-page site written and built by an AI agent, on the domain you already own. Our Square Online alternative comparison goes through both side by side, including the cases where Square is the right answer.

Square Online pricing plans in 2026

Square folded its online store into its general Square plans, so the same three tiers now cover the website, the point of sale and everything else Square sells. That is why the prices look high for a website builder: Plus and Premium are priced as whole-business subscriptions.

Plus and Premium both come with a 30-day free trial. The plans page shows monthly prices only, with no annual discount on the card, and it states that the monthly fee applies to each location you run. Two shops on Plus is $98 a month, three on Premium is $447.

How much does Square Online cost per year?

Square Online costs $0, $588 or $1,788 a year per location before processing fees, on Free, Plus and Premium. Processing is added on top of that and usually outweighs the subscription once you sell more than a few thousand dollars a month online. For most small sellers the real annual cost is the plan fee plus roughly 3% of online sales.

Square Online store fees: every rate on the plan page

The online card rate gets the attention, but the plans page lists eight payment types, and a few of them decide the bill for particular businesses. Invoiced ACH, for example, is capped on the paid plans and uncapped on Free.

Text message marketing is metered separately. Plus includes 500 texts a month per account, then 3¢ a text. Premium includes 2,500, then 1.5¢. Free does not include text marketing at all.

Is Square Plus worth it?

Square Plus is worth it on processing alone once you sell about $12,250 a month online. Plus costs $49 a month more than Free and cuts the online card rate by 0.4 of a percentage point, and $49 divided by 0.004 is $12,250. Below that, you pay more on Plus than on Free, unless you need a feature that only Plus has.

Here is the whole monthly bill at four sales levels, assuming a $50 average online order so the 30¢ per transaction is counted too.

Online sales a monthSquare FreeSquare PlusSquare Premium
$2,000 (40 orders)$78$119$219
$5,000 (100 orders)$195$224$324
$12,250 (245 orders)$477.75$477.75$577.75
$25,000 (500 orders)$975$924$1,024

Premium never wins on online sales, because its online rate is the same as Plus. Its only rate improvement is in-person, a tenth of a point, which needs about $100,000 a month in card-present sales to cover the extra $100. People buy Premium for the other things: real-time shipping rates, advanced reporting and 24/7 phone support.

What the Square Free plan does not include

The Free plan is a real store. It has the website builder with SEO tools, pickup, local delivery and shipping, and selling on search and social. What it leaves out is mostly the website side, according to Square's feature grid:

  • Your own domain. Connecting a domain you own or buying one through Square is a paid-plan feature. On Free the site lives on a Square address.
  • Custom code and native video. The embed sections for booking tools, event registration and uploaded video start on Plus.
  • Expanded site customization. Custom fonts, animations, parallax, badges, the customizable theme and the premium stock photo library are Plus and above.
  • Password-protected pages. Plus and above.
  • Phone support after 90 days. Free gets phone support weekdays 6am to 6pm Pacific for the first 90 days only. Plus keeps those hours, and Premium is 24/7.

That first line is the one that catches service businesses. A plumber or a salon that takes payments in person may not need a store at all, but a website on a Square subdomain looks temporary to a customer comparing three businesses on their phone. Fixing that costs $588 a year on Plus.

Square Online vs AgentSite pricing

These two tools solve different problems, and the honest comparison says so. Square sells a store and a payments system with a site attached. AgentSite builds the site itself: an AI agent plans the pages, writes every one, and publishes it with hosting and SSL. It does not take card payments, so it is not a replacement for Square's checkout.

If you sell products online, stay on Square. If you are paying $49 a month mainly so your website can sit on your own domain, and your customers pay you in person or by invoice, you are paying for a store you do not use. A written multi-page site from a small business website builder costs less and does more of the work, and you can still keep Square Free for payments and link its checkout from the site.

Is Square Online free?

Yes, Square Free costs $0 a month and you only pay processing when you take a payment. The limits are a Square web address rather than your own domain, a higher online card rate of 3.3% + 30¢, fewer design options, and phone support that ends after 90 days. For a small store testing demand, it is a genuinely good deal.

Who should buy which Square plan

  • A cafe, food truck or shop selling under about $12,000 a month online: Square Free, unless you need your own domain. The processing math favors Free below that line.
  • A store selling more than about $12,250 a month online, or one that needs its own domain: Square Plus. Past the break-even, the lower online rate pays for the plan.
  • A multi-location retailer that ships a lot and needs support at any hour: Square Premium, bought for real-time shipping rates, reporting and 24/7 phone support rather than for rates.
  • A service business that takes payment in person or by invoice: probably not a paid Square plan. Keep Square Free for payments and put the website somewhere built for service pages.

Whichever plan you pick, get the payouts into your books cleanly. Square exports transactions as CSV, and if you keep your accounts in QuickBooks you can turn that CSV export into a QuickBooks import file instead of keying each deposit by hand.

How Square Online pricing compares with other builders

Square is the only builder in this group whose paid tiers are priced as a whole-business subscription, which is why it looks expensive next to website-only tools. Wix starts at $17 a month paid yearly, Squarespace Basic is $228 a year, and Square's own Weebly still sells separate website plans from $13 a month, as our Weebly pricing breakdown shows. For the full field side by side, see our guide to what a website builder really costs.

Frequently asked questions about Square Online pricing

How much does Square Online cost per month?

Square Online costs $0 a month on Square Free, $49 a month on Square Plus and $149 a month on Square Premium, per location. Square Pro is custom-priced for sellers processing over $250,000 a year. Card processing is charged on top: 3.3% + 30¢ online on Free and 2.9% + 30¢ on Plus and Premium.

What are Square Online store fees?

Square Online store fees are the per-payment processing charges. Online card payments cost 3.3% + 30¢ on Free and 2.9% + 30¢ on paid plans. Card-present payments cost 2.6%, 2.5% or 2.4% plus 15¢ by plan. Manually keyed cards cost 3.5% + 15¢ and Afterpay costs 6% + 30¢ on every plan.

Can I use my own domain on Square Online for free?

No. Square's feature grid lists custom domain connection only on Square Plus and Square Premium. On Square Free your site uses a Square web address. Putting the store on a domain you own therefore costs at least $49 a month per location, or $588 a year.

Does Square Online charge per location?

Yes. The plans page states that on Square Plus and Square Premium the monthly fee applies to each location you run. Two locations on Plus cost $98 a month, and three on Premium cost $447 a month. Square Free is $0 per location, so it stays free however many locations you add.

Is there a free trial of Square Plus?

Yes. Square Plus and Square Premium each show a 30-day free trial on the plans page. Square Free has no trial because it has no monthly fee. If you are trying Plus mainly for the lower online rate, check your monthly online sales first, since Plus only pays for itself above about $12,250 a month.

Is Square Online good for a service business?

It is good for a service business that sells products or gift cards online. It is a weaker fit for a business that needs a separate page for each service and each area it covers, because you build and write every page yourself and pay $49 a month for your own domain. Those businesses usually do better with a builder made for written service pages.

Does Square Online have an annual plan?

Square's plans page shows the Plus and Premium prices as monthly fees per location, with no annual discount on the plan cards. If you are comparing it with builders that quote a lower yearly rate, compare the monthly figure to the monthly figure, and add processing to Square's side.
