In short
The best Square Online alternative for a business whose website does not take payments is AgentSite. Square has renamed Square Online to websites and prices it per location at $0, $49 and $149 a month, but almost everything the paid tiers add is either a lower card processing rate or a store feature, so a services business pays for machinery it never switches on. AgentSite has an AI agent design, write and launch a full multi-page site that you then edit by chatting, flat from $15 a month billed yearly. One honest caveat: if you sell products and already run Square in a shop, stay on Square. The shared catalog is the entire point of that product and we do not replace it.

HOW WE COMPARE
Square Online is a good product aimed at a specific person, and a lot of the people using it are not that person. It was built so a shop already taking cards with Square could put the same catalog online in an afternoon, with inventory, pickup and delivery all wired to the till. If that is you, this page will tell you to stay where you are, and it means it.
The mismatch shows up in the pricing, which we read from Square's own US plan page on September 6, 2026. The tiers are Square Free at $0 a month per location, Square Plus at $49 and Square Premium at $149, with Square Pro on custom terms for sellers processing more than $250,000 a year. Look at what the money buys and the shape of the product becomes obvious. Free charges 3.3 percent plus 30 cents on online payments. Plus drops that to 2.9 percent plus 30 cents and adds expanded site customization, advanced item settings, QR code ordering and subscriptions. Premium keeps the same online rate, shaves in-person from 2.5 to 2.4 percent, and adds real-time shipping rates, advanced reporting and 24/7 support.
Read that list again with a services business in mind. Advanced item settings, QR code ordering, real-time shipping rates: none of it applies to a physiotherapist. What is left is the processing discount, and a business that never takes an online payment cannot spend it. The upgrade path on Square's website product is a payments upgrade path wearing a website label, which is fine when you sell things and quietly expensive when you do not.
The arithmetic is worth doing once, because it settles the question faster than any feature list. Plus costs $49 a month more than Free and cuts online processing by 0.4 of a percentage point, so it pays for itself at roughly $12,250 a month in online card sales. Premium costs $100 a month more than Plus and, online, changes nothing at all: the only rate it improves is in-person, by a tenth of a point, which needs about $100,000 a month in card-present takings to break even. Those numbers are just Square's published rates divided into their own subscription prices, and they explain why so many small sites sit on Free forever.
AgentSite is built for the other job. You describe the business in a sentence or two and an AI agent designs the pages, writes the copy, sets up the SEO and launches the site, then stays on as the editor you talk to when the hours change or you drop a service. Pricing is flat from $15 a month billed yearly, or $19 billed monthly, with hosting, SSL and your custom domain included, and no processing spread to optimize because we are not in the payments business at all.
Square Online is a payments product with a website attached, priced per location and upgraded by processing rate; AgentSite is a website product with no payments to sell, priced flat, where an AI agent does the building and the writing.

§ THE FIELD
The main Square Online alternatives, compared.
Almost every roundup of Square Online alternatives compares storefronts, because Square Online is filed under ecommerce. That misses who actually searches for a way out: plumbers, clinics, consultants and studios who ended up on a payments company website because their card reader came with one. Here is the field split by what you are actually building.

|---|---|---|
| AgentSite | Service businesses that need real pages, a bio and a contact path, not a cart | Flat from $15/mo billed yearly, hosting and SSL included |

| Wix | People who want the widest feature and app selection and will assemble it | Subscription per site, apps billed on top |
| Shopify | Serious product sellers who have outgrown a payments company store tool | Subscription plus payment processing |
| WordPress with WooCommerce | Teams with a developer who want to own the whole stack | Free software, you pay hosting, plugins and maintenance |
| Square websites (Square Online) | Shops already running Square POS that need one catalog everywhere | $0, $49 or $149 a month per location, plus processing |

§ FAQ
Common questions.
It depends on whether your website sells anything. If it does not, a builder with no payments layer is the better buy, and AgentSite goes furthest by having an AI agent write and launch the whole site rather than handing you an editor. If you do sell products but have outgrown Square, Shopify is the honest answer.
The Square Free plan genuinely costs $0 a month per location, so hosting a site really is free. The cost sits in processing: Free charges 3.3 percent plus 30 cents on online payments, against 2.9 percent plus 30 cents on the paid tiers. If your site never takes a payment, Free is free in every sense.
Square renamed it. In its own FAQ Square says it renamed Square Online to websites to better highlight the website-building tools the product offers, and that all the same features and capabilities remain, with only the name changing. If you are searching for Square Online and finding pages about Square websites, that is why.
Read from Square's US plan page on September 6, 2026: Square Free is $0 a month per location, Square Plus is $49 and Square Premium is $149, each per location. Square Pro is custom-priced and aimed at sellers processing more than $250,000 a year. Plus and Premium both advertise a 30-day free trial.
On the Free plan, 3.3 percent plus 30 cents online and 2.6 percent plus 15 cents for tap, dip or swipe. On Plus, 2.9 percent plus 30 cents online and 2.5 percent plus 15 cents in person. On Premium, the same 2.9 percent plus 30 cents online and 2.4 percent plus 15 cents in person.
Only above a certain sales volume. Plus costs $49 a month more than Free and improves the online rate by 0.4 of a percentage point, which means it starts paying for itself at roughly $12,250 a month in online card sales. Below that, you are paying $49 for the extra store features alone.
Rarely, if you sell online. Premium costs $100 a month more than Plus and leaves the online rate unchanged at 2.9 percent plus 30 cents. The only rate it lowers is in person, from 2.5 to 2.4 percent, so on rates alone it needs about $100,000 a month across the counter before it pays back.
Yes, and plenty of service businesses do. It will build you a perfectly serviceable brochure site on the Free plan. The catch is that every reason to ever upgrade is a selling feature or a processing discount, so you are on a product whose roadmap is pointed somewhere your business is not going.
It is adequate rather than strong. Square lists a website builder with SEO tools on every plan, which means the fields exist and you fill them in. Nothing writes your titles, meta descriptions or page structure for you, so the quality of the SEO ends up being the quality of the afternoon you spend on it.
Yes. All three published tiers are priced per location, so a second shop means a second subscription rather than a bigger single one. For a business planning a second site or a second branch, that changes the total quickly, and it is the detail most comparison articles leave out.
It depends where you are. In June 2026 Square announced it is winding Weebly down across 67 countries, with affected sites unable to publish new pages from June 29, going offline on September 27, 2026, and accounts closing on December 26. The United States is not on that list, so US sites stay up.
A website builder, in almost every case. A plumber, clinic or consultancy needs service pages, proof and a way to get in touch, none of which improve when the platform lowers a card rate. Buy the tool whose upgrades make your website better rather than the one whose upgrades make your checkout cheaper.
Not as a working site. Hosted builders render pages from their own systems, so there is no bundle you can lift out and drop elsewhere. Moving means rebuilding, which is much less painful than it sounds when an agent writes the new site from a description and you redirect the old URLs.
Yes. The website product sits inside Square, which is exactly why it is a strong choice for existing Square sellers and an awkward one for everyone else. If you do not process cards with Square and have no plans to, you are signing up for a payments account in order to publish a few pages.
